In the early days of the church, Advent was a time of prayer, fasting & confession. Today, Advent is more a time of preparation & expectation of the coming of the Lord. Did you know the second advent candle has 3 different themes? Faith--to indicate the faith it took for Mary & Joseph to deal with the unexpected pregnancy & the trip to Bethlehem; Peace--for the peace promised to all mankind through the coming of the Savior; & the Bethlehem Candle pointing to the Savior's birth in a manger. He is coming again. Prepare!

Titus was a companion of Paul and may have known Timothy. Both letters to these faithful young leaders were written evidently in the last few years of Paul's life. In Titus, he encourages this leader to work with the followers who lived on Crete. They had a rather difficult societal culture to overcome, but Paul's wise words on how to be the best example of Christian believers gave Titus the understanding he needed to turn these undisciplined home churches into faithful examples of the God of the Creation and the Lord Jesus Christ.
