In the early days of the church, Advent was a time of prayer, fasting & confession. Today, Advent is more a time of preparation & expectation of the coming of the Lord. Did you know the second advent candle has 3 different themes? Faith--to indicate the faith it took for Mary & Joseph to deal with the unexpected pregnancy & the trip to Bethlehem; Peace--for the peace promised to all mankind through the coming of the Savior; & the Bethlehem Candle pointing to the Savior's birth in a manger. He is coming again. Prepare!

INTRODUCTION
Corinth was an important and wealthy city. Having ports on two seas, it was a great trading center. Christianity was first introduced there by Paul on his second missionary journey. His continued labors were successful in building up a vigorous church. But on his leaving for other fields of labor, serious evils broke out among the members; some countenanced immorality, idol feasts, lawsuits in heathen courts, and immodesty among women. As tidings of these evils were brought to Paul at Ephesus, he addressed this letter to the Corinthian church “with many tears,” 2 Corithians 2:4. The letter was written about 57 A.D. Several features of special interest characterize this Epistle-notably the gospel as the wisdom of God, the supremacy of love, and the doctrine of the resurrection.

1 Corinthians 13, an exposition on how we are to think of love. The KJV calls it "charity", other versions "love", but neither charity or love looks like the Hollywood version of sappy moon eyes. Love is an action, and Rev. Todd brings us a simple, clear explanation of the Christian's application of love to themselves, their friends, the strangers in their lives, and as an expression of being who we are called to be in Christ. Love~ the foundation of the Cross and the key to all that ever was, is, and will be. "Love is all there is..."

Speaking in tongues is a difficult topic that often comes with heavy emotions. Not all who claim to be speaking the words of God are actually doing so...some are speaking out in innocence but speaking out of themselves, & some are caught up in the moment wanting to be a part of the excitement. And some folks are showmen, riding a wave & encouraging a following. Is prayer always only in your native tongue? , the Scripture in 1 Corinthians 14 is clear that there is prayer, groanings & utterances, speaking in other tongues, angelic languages, absolute hearing miracles where someone hears a message in their language that was actually spoken in another. God is sovereign in all & can do as He will with His creation. It is also clear that sometimes people just "fall in line" and start getting excited, joining in the moment, or having ecstatic utterances that have nothing to do with the Holy Ghost. Pastor Joshua explains the phenomenon, gives a bit of history, & encourages the believer to be discerning, know the difference, & keep oneself always immersed in the Word. Doing so will keep you closer to the Truth.
