Micah, meaning "who is like Yah", was a prophet in Judaism who prophesied from approximately 737–696 BC in Judah and is the author of the Book of Micah. He is considered one of the twelve minor prophets of the Tanakh (Hebrew Bible) and was a contemporary of the prophets Isaiah, Amos and Hosea.  He confronted the prosperous and unfaithful people of God when the people of God did not see what was so wrong with their lifestyles...

Micah's words are as important to today's governments, judges, financial decision makers, policymakers, and other of societies' various leaders including religious, cultural (such as the entertainment industry), and business, as those words and warnings ever were to Judah and Israel. The major import? God is NOT pleased, so you'd better HEAR Him!!!   Then Change Your Ways, O Man!! (6:8)
Micah was a farmer sent by the Lord primarily to Judah. C. I Scofield gives a succinct and clear summary:

"Micah, a contemporary of Isaiah, prophesied during the reigns of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah over Judah, and of Pekahiah, Pekah, and Hoshea over Israel. (See  2 Kings 15:23-30 and 2Kings 17:1-6.)  He was a prophet in Judah according to  Jeremiah 26:17-19 but the book called by his name chiefly concerns Samaria.

Micah falls into three prophetic strains, each beginning, "Hear":
1. Mic_1:1 to Mic_2:13
2. Mic_3:1 to Mic_5:15
3. Mic_6:1 to Mic_7:20
The events recorded in Micah cover a period of 40 years (Ussher)."
