The 200's
A Snowy 2nd Sunday in Advent 2018 Greetings!
Pastor Josh & Sister Kristina 9 Dec 2018
In the early days of the church, Advent was a time of prayer, fasting & confession. Today, Advent is more a time of preparation & expectation of the coming of the Lord. Did you know the second advent candle has 3 different themes? Faith--to indicate the faith it took for Mary & Joseph to deal with the unexpected pregnancy & the trip to Bethlehem; Peace--for the peace promised to all mankind through the coming of the Savior; & the Bethlehem Candle pointing to the Savior's birth in a manger. He is coming again. Prepare!

If you would like to just listen to the KJV version of Joel, click on the title picture.
The Read Scripture Series has a great 7 minute video that gives an excellent visual overview of Joel. Watch & enjoy.
Joel, a prophet of Judah, probably exercised his ministry during the reign of Joash (2 Chronicles 22 to 24). In his youth he may have known Elijah, and he certainly was a contemporary of Elisha. The plagues of insects, which were the token of the divine chastening, give occasion for the unveiling of the coming "day of the Lord" (Isaiah 2:12, refs.), in its two aspects of judgment on the Gentiles and blessing for Israel.
Joel is in three chief parts:
1. The plague of insects (Joel 1:1-20)
2. The day of the Lord (Joel 2:1 - 3:8)
3. Retrospect of the day of the Lord, and full kingdom blessing (Joel 3:9-21)
