In the early days of the church, Advent was a time of prayer, fasting & confession. Today, Advent is more a time of preparation & expectation of the coming of the Lord. Did you know the second advent candle has 3 different themes? Faith--to indicate the faith it took for Mary & Joseph to deal with the unexpected pregnancy & the trip to Bethlehem; Peace--for the peace promised to all mankind through the coming of the Savior; & the Bethlehem Candle pointing to the Savior's birth in a manger. He is coming again. Prepare!

Answer the question Jesus asked the scholars of His day--"How do you read it?" Don't just take someone else's teaching as the final truth. Read the Word for yourself, pray for wisdom from above, & study to show yourself approved. editor
In 1 Timothy Paul gives the kind of advice a father gives a beloved son working on the front lines. The bottom line? "Guard the truth, son! Guard the truth!" How well do you study the Word? How deeply do you dig to learn the truth of the Gospel? Do you guard the truth, or do you go along with the social changes to "stay relevant"? Be careful; you will be held accountable! Guard the truth!
